Jacques Futrelle was a mystery author from the early part of the 20th Century. He wrote about 50 short stories featuring Prof. S. F. X. Van Deusen, The Thinking Machine as his detective.

I've read a couple of these short stories and they are quite good. All the stories are in the public domain and you can download them for free at Blackmask.
